Sedgwick County commission to vote Wednesday on fireworks
BY: DEB GRUVER
That's when commissioners are expected to vote whether to allow fireworks on private property on and around the Fourth of July.
The vote will wrap up months of discussion about fireworks, which included a December public meeting at the zoo.
The county has banned fireworks in its unincorporated areas — those outside city limits — since 1979. But the ban was difficult to enforce, which fire officials acknowledged.
If commissioners make a change, residents in unincorporated areas would be able to shoot off consumer-grade fireworks from 8 a.m. through midnight July 1, 2, 3 and 4. The board will discuss extending the time period through July 5 when the Fourth of July federal holiday falls on that day.
Following state law, bottle rockets, sky rockets and moon rockets still would not be allowed. People also could not shoot off fireworks on public roads and highways or in parks.
Before voting, the commissioners will open their meeting for public comment. They meet on the third floor of the courthouse, 525 N. Main.

The real joke in all of this is they are also undecided if they will allow the sale of fireworks in unincorporated areas. No wonder Kansas is so broke. Our elected officials have no clue as how to encourage commerce, and extract fees and taxes at the same time, thereby benefitting business, consumers, and the state.

they might as well allow it people shoot them off regardless ,aleast they can control some of it inside the city so fire dept can respond faster ,besides they shoot them off at the ball parks,if its good enough for the city why not taxpayers with all the taxes our great city hits you with ,i think they should allow it ,if good for the city its good enough for taxpayers

Do you suppose Parks has checked with the FBI to find out what their position on this issue might be ?
