DETAILS: COLORADO SPRINGS, COLO -- It was an explosion to many residents after hearing there will be no firework show on the 4th of July this year at Memorial Park.

"A lot of people have really great memories about going to it every year and it's just something that shouldn't go away," said Megan Martinez

That's why Martinez along with some friends are putting together a fundraiser to raise money so the show will go on. But they're going to have to raise a lot of money. FOX21 News is told the show cost anywhere from $70,000 to $80,000.

The group spearheading the fundraiser tells FOX21 News that Parks and Recreation is on board and so is Mayor Lionel Rivera.

"He supports our cause and he'd really like to see it come back, but because of budget cuts, they can't really do anything about it this year," said Martinez

Martinez says they're hoping to put on an event to bring community members together and ask for donations to keep the fireworks show on schedule for 2010.
