Details: Syd Lehman, President of the Garberville, Redway Chamber of Commerce, accepted a $1,000 check from John Porter, owner and managing partner of the Benbow Hotel & Resort on Monday, June 8. The check is a donation for the Community Picnic and Fireworks Spectacular Fund to keep the event going.
”We are big fans of the Community Picnic and Fireworks show,” said Porter. “We were disappointed it had to cancel last year, but we understand fire safety must come first. We want to support the annual tradition and have it continue.”
”We will have a great show this year,” added the Chamber's Executive Director, Dee Way. John O'Rourke Supervising State Park Ranger, Ed Locke, South Division Chief and Terrie Ridenhour, Battalion Chief of CAL Fire were also on hand to accept the donation. “This donation is a wonderful jump-start and we hope this inspires others to donate too,” said Lehman. “The event is fun for the whole community, you can't help but OOOH and AAAH when the fireworks start.”
The Community Picnic and Fireworks Spectacular is scheduled for Saturday, July 4 at the Benbow Lake State Park Recreation Area. There will be food, fun, music and of course, fireworks. Donations of all sizes can be made to the Garberville/ Redway Chamber of Commerce and sent to P.O. Box 445 Garberville, 95542. Also, donation boxes have been set up at many Southern Humboldt businesses.
