Details: ARLINGTON — The city’s Independence Day fireworks show will be held downtown this year instead of at Lake Arlington. The celebration, called Light Up Arlington, is scheduled to begin at 5 p.m. July 3 near City Hall and the University of Texas at Arlington. The move from the west side of town will allow more people to participate in the free event and see the fireworks show, which is scheduled to begin at 9:45 p.m. from atop the eight-story Municipal Office Tower. The event will also include live music at the Levitt Pavilion, children’s activities and vendors. The celebration started in 2007 to mark Lake Arlington’s 50th anniversary. About 5,000 spectators came the first year, but the crowds tripled last year, causing public safety and traffic concerns.Downtown is also the site of the annual Independence Day Parade. This year’s parade begin at 9 a.m. July 4 and is expected to have more than 3,000 participants.Online: http://www.naturallyfun.org/, http://www.arlington4th.com/
