Details: MADISON TWP. — No it wasn’t Fourth of July, but there were plenty of fireworks in the sky on Saturday night, Sept. 5, as part of a Labor Day weekend event.
Street Lethal Motorsports hosted a cruise-in and fireworks show to help bring some “life” back into the Middletown area, said Marcus Martin, vice president of the company.
“We wanted to do it for July 4th, but just couldn’t get everything to come together so, I said let’s do it for Labor Day,” Martin said. “When we started talking about fireworks, the whole city responded.”
The 20- to 30-minute show was put on by American Fireworks of Hudson. The fireworks were sponsored by Norvell Landscaping.
Martin’s business was located in Myrtle Beach, S.C., but family obligations brought him back home to Middletown.
“Love it here, the people are great. I don’t believe this is a dying city,” he said, noting he plans to make fireworks part of an annual Labor Day weekend event.
Music and a “monster dog” eating contest also were part of the festivities held at the shop in the Posttown portion of Madison Twp., just outside Middletown.
Michael Hall and his family enjoyed pizza and chili fries as they waited for the fireworks to begin.
“This is really cool, especially combined with the music,” he said. Son, Ethan agreed as he munched on a hot dog.
