Holiday In Blackpool

Blackpool is one of Britain's most popular holiday destinations in the UK and world famous for its Illuminations which are held from the end of August to the beginning of November.

Blackpool can be found situated in the county of Lancashire along the coast of the Irish Sea and is ideal for a short break, family holiday or even a rowdy hen or stag party.

With so many hotels, inns, b&b's and guest houses to choose from; Blackpool has something for everybody.  As the summer season winds down, the Blackpool Illuminations start and are considered to be the greatest free light show on earth with millions of visitors coming to Blackpool each year to witness the spectacular Illuminations.

Blackpool Illuminations began as part of Blackpool's attractions in 1879 where they were originally just eight arc lamp stands that lined the promenade and were described as "Artificial Sunshine".  These days Blackpool's hi-tec Illuminations excite the resort visitors with the most popular night being the "Big Switch On".

On the first night of the Illuminations you will literally see thousands of people turning up to witness the spectacle.  Most visitors enjoy the lights by car, coach, bus or open top tram.  Or if you are romancing your sweetheart, why not take a ride in a horse drawn carriage?

Blackpool has some of the top pyrotechnic experts who show their skills to the thousands of people who descent onto the Promenade to witness this extravaganza.  Don't miss the end of season fireworks display every November at the Pleasure Beach.

Getting here is easily accessible from all parts of Great Britain with the M55 linking the town with the M6 and the country's motorway network. Blackpool also has its own international airport and a regular train service.  It is also conveniently located to some of the major ferry ports.

Blackpool is a town bursting with exciting possibilities from the death defying rollercoaster's to the world class shows and boasts a multitude of multicultural restaurants to tickle the most fickle of taste buds.

Visitors can hop on a tram for a trip between the piers stretching from Squires Gate through Cleveleys and on to Fleetwood.  During the Illuminations, circular tours of the seafront can be enjoyed on special trams. It's a nostalgic trip back in time to experience how our ancestors enjoyed the experience that is Blackpool.

The most popular attraction is Blackpool Pleasure Beach which has over 125 rides and is home to the tallest, fastest rollercoaster in Europe.  The new ride Infusion a white-knuckle ride and is nor for the faint hearted.

For the little ones cruises around the River Caves and Alice's Wonderland offer a more sedate experience.  Beaver Creek Theme Park is home to Bradley Beaver and his very own Log Flume.  There is also Pleasure Beach Arena which is the perfect place to learn to skate.  Other attractions include the underwater world aquarium and Jungle Jims Adventure Land to name a few.  If you buy a wristband at any ticket office in the park you can enjoy all the attractions as many times as you dare and get a free matinee show.

When thinking Blackpool one icon that sticks out is the "Blackpool Tower" which has massive historical significance.  It has entertained guests for many years and has five floors of entertainment to choose from.  Why not take afternoon tea in the famous Tower Ballrooms and return in the evening for a night of fabulous entertainment.  For those closet ballroom dancers, relax and show of your fancy footwork.

The above mentioned attractions are but the tip of the iceberg, Blackpool is known as the fun capital of Britain for good reason so why not book up and experience, great hospitality, and go experience the whirlwind of fun that is Blackpool for yourself.
