Details: Times have been tough this year for many people, but the 4th of July is a chance to at least temporarily toss aside any troubles to enjoy some of the simple things in life--family, friends, food, and fireworks.
Even the annual downtown Louisville 4th of July celebration has not been immune to the economic downturn. The budget for this year's Waterfront Independence Festival, which is primarily sponsored by Fifth Third Bank, has been cut by about $100,000. Still, the free celebration at Waterfront Park is sure to be a good time.
As part of the festival, there will be fireworks displays on both Friday and Saturday nights. And according to reports, the actual fireworks shows should not be significantly affected by the budget cuts.
The fireworks on Friday, July 3, start at 10:30 PM, but on the following night, Saturday, July 4, the show begins 15 minutes earlier, at 10:15 PM. Since the pyrotechnics will take place directly over the Ohio, there should be plenty of good viewing spots on both sides of the river.
Those that choose to visit Waterfront Park, however, also will have the chance to enjoy a variety of live music (view schedule), entertainment, and food as well as games and activities for the kids.
