Details: North Canton’s July 4 Celebration in the Park fireworks display will go ahead as planned — on July 5 — now that a local business has stepped into help the North Canton Jaycees foot the bill.

The Jaycees still are looking for more sponsors to help out.

The organization announced in January that the fireworks show was in jeopardy because city officials announced the city could no longer provide the $4,500 needed to help the Jaycees pay for the $10,000 show.

Enter Quaker Steak & Lube.

The business, located at 6081 Dressler Rd. NW in Jackson Township, has offered to help the Jaycees sponsor the event, Jaycees President Jennifer Reider announced Thursday morning.

“We are grateful that a local business stepped up and was able to help bring this event to the community,” she said in a statement. “North Canton is one of the only cities in Stark County that has fireworks for the 4th of July, so we are thrilled we can continue this tradition for the community.”

The celebration kicks off with a parade at 10:30 a.m. at the Hoover High School Stadium, according to a news release from the Jaycees. The parade route will head west to Main Street. The Celebration in the Park itself starts at 6 p.m. with food vendors and musical entertainment. Fireworks will follow at dusk.

“North Canton and the surrounding communities have been very good to us. All of our owners live in this area and realize the importance of giving back and supporting a long-lived community tradition,” Jon Smitek of Quaker Steak & Lube’s board of directors said in a statement.

Reider said that anyone else willing to help sponsor the event can contact her at (330) 933-7353 or president@northcantonjaycees.org.
